Numerical Analysis Of Layered Flexible Structures Subjected To Impact Of Soft Core Projectile

This paper uses the finite element method to analyze the impact of a soft-core projectile on a flexible armor package, highlighting the necessity of employing an R-adaptive mesh technique to properly model the extreme material deformation. The finite element analysis shows that while the R-adaptive method enables the simulation to run to completion, it introduces a significant mass loss artifact that must be carefully monitored and controlled to ensure the validity of the results.
