Parametric Finite Element Modeling Across Many Simulation Codes

By:

Abstract:

This paper presents a methodology for developing fully parametric finite element models using TrueGrid® that are exportable to a wide range of simulation codes such as ABAQUS™, ANSYS®, LS-DYNA™, and NASTRAN®. Central to the approach is a powerful templating system that enables parametric control over geometry, mesh density, materials, loads, and constraints—crucial for supporting design iterations and shape optimization. By abstracting geometry into parametric expressions and conditional statements, the methodology supports smooth or discrete shape variations and ensures consistent model behavior across different simulation platforms. The paper highlights how parametric modeling facilitates efficient exploration of design spaces, supports robust verification and validation processes, and allows for seamless integration of shape optimization within complex multi-physics workflows.
