Abstract:

This paper presents a numerical, theoretical, and experimental study on the behavior of composite beam-column connections, focusing on connections in internal columns of frames that use web and seat angles. The study uses three-dimensional finite element models developed in commercial software like TRUEGRID and ANSYS. These numerical models consider three-dimensional finite elements for all connection components, including the column, beam, stiffeners, concrete slab, bolts, and the web and seat angles. An exception is the shear connectors, which are modeled using a beam element. The models incorporate geometric discontinuities through contact elements and account for both physical and geometric non-linearities. The research aims to evaluate the design methodologies of EUROCODE 3 and 4 by comparing them with analytical procedures and experimental results. The numerical analysis is intended to be a complement to experimental work, providing a more comprehensive understanding of the global behavior of these connections.
