Drag Coefficient of a Spherical Particle Attached on the Flat Surface

Abstract:

This study utilizes Computational Fluid Dynamics to numerically calculate the drag coefficient (C$_d$) for a spherical particle attached to a flat surface, extending its validity beyond the creeping flow conditions addressed by previous analytical solutions. The research covers a wide range of particle Reynolds numbers (Re$_p$) from 0.1 to 250 and examines the applicability of an empirical correction factor (f) to modify O'Neill's analytical equation for these varied flow conditions.
